Katherine Beard - Assistant Trainer
USDF Bronze Medalist
Katherine (“Katie”) Beard began riding at the age of four while living with her parents in Weybridge, England. She
started riding at Lower Cobham Stables on a pony named “Twinkles” and, after moving back to Texas, she had the
opportunity to ride bareback all summer in the Texas hillside, helping her to become a confident, well-balanced rider.
As a young teen, Katherine began to formally study with her mother, Jennifer Jones-Cavness. She has had the
opportunity to assist in the development of many young horses, some still with the Half Pass Training Center today.
Katie’s first star mount was Big D Cross My Heart (a Morgan mare) who came to Half Pass Training as an un-broke three
year old. Katie was involved with the training process from the start and soon developed a close relationship with the
horse, who she nicknamed “Dee Dee” and, together, they went on to many wins and championships, including a placing
at the Regional Championships. Other horses that Katie has assisted in starting are Warner D (a Friesen gelding, started
at four years of age), Rembrandt (a Hessen gelding started at three years of age), Captain Crunch (a draft cross, started
at three years of age), Reggae (a Danish gelding, started at three years of age), and Touchdown (another Danish
gelding, started at two years of age).
Her new star mount is Gauke fan Blauhus, a Friesen gelding (”Gauke”). Gauke was imported to the US in 2007 as a four
year old. In limited showing in 2007, Katie and Gauke won a Reserve Champion placing with the USDF All-breeds Award.
In 2010 Katie received her USDF bronze medal, competing on Gauke, and is now working towards earning her Silver
medal, having recently qualified for the 2011 Region 9 Championships at Third Level. Katie has studied under Dr.
Thomas Ritter, Volker Braummen, Gerhard Politz, and Reinhard Dorsch.
